FINAL REFLECTION

Throughout this semester, I feel like I’ve grown tremendously as a writer. I was introduced to genres, something I wasn’t very informed about to begin with. They were daunting at first, since I was always exposed to the traditional essay. I learned how to compose in different genres and this definitely challenged me. I think I was a good writer to begin with, but I never explored how I could go further with it. This course allowed me to do that. In Project 1, I learned how to create snapshots utilizing various genres and use my writing to tell a story. I also learned that I didn’t have to be so formal with how I wrote, but could instead just write casually and free, which was definitely different for me considering I went to a college prep school where all we did was write formal essays. Project 2 was probably the most rewarding for me because I learned the most in this project. I not only learned writing techniques, such as how to cite properly and quote others, but I learned how to research and write about something that was meaningful. I explored a topic that was close to me and learned how to encompass my personal experiences into something academic and purposeful. It was the project that overwhelmed me the most since there were so many steps involved, but in the end I was very pleased with the outcome. When I was told what Project 3 was going to be, I felt somewhat overwhelmed too because I never presented my thoughts and ideas in that type of way. That project definitely stressed me out the most because I didn’t know how to compose my writing in another medium besides a typical typed essay. However, I found that project to be fulfilling because I got to present my ideas in a new and more interesting way. I had to be more creative and step outside my comfort zone to compose my research from Project 2 in a unique way. I was able to do so much in this project: create a poster, interview my mom, and format all of this on to a website. This was the project that allowed me to be the most creative. All of these projects helped me to write in a more purposeful way by having a target audience to compose for. This semester challenged me in new ways, but produced fulfilling results.
